Harris v. McRae


Cora McRae (pregnant Medicaid recipient) v. Patricia Harris (U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services) -1980

McRae challenged the Hyde Amendment of 1976, which prohibits the federal Medicaid funding of abortions not necessary to preserve the woman�s life.

The Court upheld the Hyde Amendment.Similar to Maher v. Roe, the justices said that a woman's freedom of choice did not carry with it "a constitutional entitlement to full financial resources.�
